January 13, 2015, the herbal community lost a great teacher, enviromental advocate and friend, Carol Jacobs. Her goal was to start an herbal group with the sole purpose of education in her own community of Winona, Minnesota. With a generous gift from Carol's children; Alisha, Jessica, Josh, and Tamberlain, we made her dream come true. Here's to you, old friend, "Herbalus Educatorus-Support for the Journey."
I schedule events for the Winona Herbal Education Society, manage the facebook page for the group and teach classes.
Winona Herbal Education Society meets monthly (Except December)
From: 1pm to 3pm
Location: Paperbacks and Pieces
429 Mankato Avenue, Winona, MN 55987
I have always been fascinated with the written word; how it sounds, how it feels when read, and what it can convey. I especially love how words can create change in our world and heal the greatest of ills.
I write daily. I am a regular contributer to Herbal Living magazine blog, have been published in a few local magazine and am presently working on my first book. I also facilitate a genre book club at Paperbacks and Pieces Bookstore in Winona, Minnesota. We meet 5 times a year. Check my calender for more details.
Founded by Rosemary Gladstarr, "United Plant Savers' mission is to protect native medicinal plants of the United States and Canada and their native habitat while ensuring an abundant renewable supply of medicinal plants for generations to come."
I support the work of United Plant Savers and hope to expand the presence of this great organization in the Driftless Region with community education and awareness.
Herbalists Without Borders (HWB) "embrace a collective vision of a global community where all people have access to affordable natural & botanical health and wellness."
Together, with a group of volunteers and herbalists in our region of the Upper Mississippi, we are actively bringing herbal healthcare to the underserved and those most in need attempting to fill the healthcare gaps. Check my calender for scheduled events. Send me a note if you would like to volunteer!
Rosemary Gladstarr is an herbalist, teacher, devoted plant advocate and one of my first teachers. She has introduced many to the world of herbalism and continues to speak for the "world of green" wherever she goes.
I am a proud graduate of "The Art and Science of Herbalism" and am honored to work for Sage Mountain Herbal Education as a homework assistant sharing my love for the world of herbalism. If you are interested in learning about herbalism, this is a program I highly recommend!
A unique geographic area full of deeply carved valleys, the Driftless Region is where I make my home. It was created thousands of years ago, left untouched by the great glaciers. It is unique in all the world for its diverse species, plant life, and topography.
Today it is threatened by farming, erosion, encrochment and frac sand mining. I am a part of a local group (Citizens Against Silica Mining-CASM) that is commited to preserving our land, water, air and quality of life. Watch this YouTube video about the Driftless region and see why I am committed to perserving this beautiful island of earth.
I am a proud member of this group of diverse herbal educators. We come from all corners of the United States, Canada and Austrilia, representing diverse backgrounds, races, religions, genders and ages.
Having met through Rosemary Gladstarr's "Ecstacy of Teaching Course" co-taught by Emily Ruff, Director of Florida School of Herbalism, we work via internet to discuss client cases, new research, teaching methods, best practice guides, wildcrafting, herbal preparations and generally share what is happening in our corner of the world.
We are living proof diversity can work together to make a difference in the world!
